Japan Former Deputy Minister of Finance

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Relations Research from Keio University, Japan.
  • Served as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Finance and Banking Committee

After graduating from Keio University, Motoyuki Odachi embarked on a global career with Arthur Andersen and then found his calling in politics and was appointed secretary to Yukio Hatoyama. Despite initial electoral setbacks, Odachi's resilience led to his election to the House of Councilors, where he served with distinction, including as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Finance. A strong proponent of economic reform and advocate for the separate surnames system, Odachi's contributions extend well beyond politics. With a passion for writing, he is acknowledged for his best selling work, a critique of Abenomics.

Yet another milestone was achieved by Odachi and his team in 2019 as they employed drones to carry out aerial surveys and search and rescue work in dangerous zones for post-disaster reconstruction of Fukushima nuclear disaster area. By thinking outside of the box and with the use of current technology, the drone team deservedly received widespread domestic and international attention and recognition.
